Computing At School and Microsoft

QuickStart Computing is a comprehensive, national programme to help primary and secondary teachers to plan, teach and assess the new computing curriculum. It was developed by Computing At School and funded by Microsoft and the Department for Education.

Computing At School, part of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, approached Pedroza Communications to help launch QuickStart Computing and ensure as many teachers as possible knew about this valuable support. Working closely with Computing At School and Microsoft, we created a campaign to:

  • Stimulate debate and discussion around computing
  • Launch QuickStart Computing to the media in January 2015
  • Engage stakeholders and teachers at the education technology show BETT

Results

The campaign secured over 200 pieces of media in broadcast, national and regional print, sector media, and online video and blogs. Overall this secured a total potential reach of 68.3m media opportunities.

  • Coverage included national the ITV network, BBC radio stations,  The Independent, The Sunday Times, Yorkshire Post and other regional media. The story was covered by Times Education Supplement and the wider education sector press.
  • Twitter provided valuable support with tweets reaching more than a million followers and including trusted channels such as the Department for Education, ASCL and NAHT.
  • All copies of QuickStart Computing were distributed during BETT and Education Minister Nicky Morgan also visited the stand to speak to teachers and students about QuickStart.
  • The launch led to the highest number of visits to the Computing At School website for the academic year.

O2 Learn

Pedroza Communications supported EdComs on the PR and publicity aspects of the marketing campaign to promote O2 Learn. We work regularly with EdComs, one of the country’s leading education research and communications agencies.

  • Developed education PR campaigns to promote the key messages about O2 Learn to teachers and students
  • Drafted and distributed media releases to the education media
  • Liaised with O2 Learn weekly winners, stakeholders and partners to develop case studies and stories.

Results

  • Secured coverage in the education media including the TES, SecEd and Teach Secondary
  • National pieces secured with The Telegraph and BBC as well as significant coverage in the local media
  • Increase in videos uploaded to O2 Learn from 1500 to 3000.

Kip McGrath Education Centres

Working with EdComs, Pedroza Communications devised the PR campaign to boost this global tutoring company brand. We also developed PR capability in the 250 individual UK-based Kip McGrath Education Centres.

  • Developed the Dream a Big Dream campaign, a national writing competition for young people
  • Helped to recruit three young athletes to be the faces of the competition, including Sam Ruddock, 2012 Paralympian
  • Secured the editor of The Times’ School Gate and Susanna Scott, founder of Brit Mums, to judge the national competition
  • Produced a PR toolkit for individual centres to use to secure local publicity
  • Liaised with individual centres to provide guidance on PR.

Results

  • Over 500 competition entries
  • Coverage secured in The Times, the local media including ITV Central, and on the Brit Mums blog
  • Increase in coverage secured by local education centres.

Pedroza Communications provides a range of marketing and communications expertise to support Teachers Media, an innovative online professional development service for educators.

  • Helped to launch the service in 2011
